Croyde Bay to Braunton

An expensive folly on the cliffs, the wide, wide sands of Saunton, dune heathland at Braunton Burrows, concrete "landing craft" commemorating D-Day, untamed tides on the Taw and Caen estuaries, a remarkable church and its stories.

The route, day 32

Around the coast to Saunton Sands, across Braunton Burrows to the west of the golf course, rejoining the South-West Coast Path at Sandy Lane and following it on the rivers Taw and Caen to Braunton. 10.5 miles/16.5 km and 169 metres ascent

Private Property

On the headland between Croyde Bay and Saunton, one more diversion of the coast path for private property - but an interesting one. This infamous house with a lighthouse-style tower (it stands upright - I tilted the camera to capture  everything on a close-up) has had a lot of media coverage.

Coastguard's Hut

There they stand, two empty buildings with a million-dollar view, the old and the new.
